Almost Done

climbers in Krakauer's group

So far I am I am really loving this book, there is so much adventure and when you think you should stop reading something else happens making you want to read more.

The main characters handle scary situations very well because in the end their goal is the get to the summit and thats exactly what they do, thanks to the foreshadowing in the beginning of the book. Throughout the book the climbers experience lots of scary situations that can end their life yet they keep on going. Some of these scary situations include: climbing a dangerous glacier called Icefall, avalanches, ultraviolet headaches, the brutal storm that claimed nine peoples lives, and the oxygen tank mishap on the way down. There were many problems they had to face, but almost every time they overcame them and solved them. They never gave up and thats what I love so much about this book.

The storm that claimed nine peoples lives what overlooked and the big question is what went wrong? I guess the simple answer was that they didn't know what is was or they thought it was a small flurry of snow, but what they got was way bigger than that. Some people were left behind due to their strength and condition, but why not save their lives and help them up the mountain? There are many questions surrounding that day that only the author can answer and the mens lives that were lost should never be forgotten.

The quote that really caught my eye in this book so far is "Everest summons dreamers." Although it is a little quote I think that is really means something to the author and other climbers that have made the journey. Climbing Everest isn't a game and not everyone can do it. You have to train, you have to climb other mountains and most of all you have to be willing to risk your life doing what you love. These people climbing the mountain have worked hard and if climbing Everest is your dream then nothing should stop you from fulfilling it.

Overall, this book is amazing and it shows you to never give up on your dream.

1/2 Way There

Based on what I have read so far I would definitely recommend this book to someone. It is full of adventure, suspension and wonder. On top of all of that it is a true story which makes it even more interesting because it's not something that was made up. So yes, I would recommend this book to people who really like true stories and adventure!

If I ever got to meet the author of this book I would have quite a few questions to ask him about his adventure and reaching the top of the world.
1. Was is scaring thinking about your air supply climbing up the mountain?
2. How did you feel climbing down the mountain knowing that not everyone was coming down with you?
3. Do you regret any of the choices you made climbing up Mt. Everest?

Some things that I have noticed about the language of the book is how detailed the text is. You are never lost in his text because it flows really nicely. Getting this far in the book I haven't come across a  part that did not make sense to me. Based on his word choice I think that his audience is meant to be everyone. I really don't think there is any specific audeince he is writing to. I believe this book is meant for everyone even though not everyone can relate to it.

Overall, I am still really liking this book and I can't wait to see/read how it ends!

1/4 of the Way There

I am currently reading Into Thin Air by Jon Krakauer. I am really enjoying this book because of the adventure that these men encounter while climbing Mt. Everest, even though they loose some men along the way.

The book begins with Jon Krakauer at the summit of Mt. Everest, while he's on top of the world he foreshadows about the struggles he his team faced while climbing. He foreshadows about the storm and how neither of the guides or the climbers knew what was headed their way. They thought they were just regular clouds like the ones you see everyday but little did they know they would loose six men to the storm. It then jumps back to his descent down the mountain. Just as he reached one of the deadliest parts of the mountain Jon asks one of the climbers to turn off the valve on the oxygen tank to conserve some air before they reach the summit and by mistake he turns it the other way. In close to 20 minutes he runs out of air. So I would say there is a lot of foreshadowing in the first few chapters.

What I admire most about they characters in this book is how courageous and brave all the men are. Even though they had lost a lot of men to the storm and they knew another one was coming soon they kept going until they reached the summit. I am not that far into the book yet where I can say what characters despise me the most. Although the guy who turned Jon's valve the wrong way does make me angry though.

If I was one of the characters in this book I would be just one of the climbers. I am not very courageous so if I was in the book I'd be the whimpy one that everyone would be annoyed by. I wouldn't be one of the main characters I would probably be the one in the back that is only mentioned in the story once or twice. If someone in my group was dying then I'd be the one the stay behind and help them and not just leave them to die. I would mainly be the character who is just there but when I came down to it I would be the person to help others.

Although I am not far into the book I must say that I really enjoy reading it and seeing what comes next!
